Legal aspects of working with sources on de-nazification

the federal law concerning archives as well as the Data Protection Act of 2000 contain numerous rulings concerning access to and use of files of interest to contemporary historical research. Furthermore, one must also consider special guidelines issued by the provinces considering the holdings of provincial archives. Various time limits for access as well as certain requirements for examining the files need to be observed, which are summarised and commented on in this article.
