Urban development was made a priority in the inter-war years. The city bears the marks of communal housing construction and the Nazi-developed heavy industry to this day.
The corresponding increase in population demanded more space. Linz achieved its present size with the incorporation of Urfahr and Pöstlingberg (1919), Kleinmünchen (1923), parts of Steyregg (1934), St. Magdalena and Ebelsberg (1938) as well as Keferfeld (1939).
